Beautiful Backyard Maternity Photoshoot in Los Angeles

Los Angeles//There’s something so magical about documenting a mother’s journey in the final stages of pregnancy, especially when it’s someone you’ve known for over a decade. Recently, I had the absolute pleasure of photographing my dear friend Vanessa, who was 38 weeks pregnant with her first baby, a beautiful little girl. The love, excitement, and anticipation in the air were palpable as we transformed her cozy backyard into the perfect backdrop for her maternity shoot.

We began the day in the most intimate way possible—with Vanessa cooking us breakfast. As we sat down to pancakes, sausage, eggs, and some much-needed coffee, the morning felt more like a gathering of old friends rather than a photoshoot. Her best friend was also there, helping to hype her up and add to the positive, energetic vibe of the day.

For the session itself, we kept the setup simple but meaningful. With a few white sheets strung up, a clothesline adorned with adorable baby onesies, and some dolls from the baby’s nursery, we created a whimsical, homey feel that was uniquely Vanessa. Her partner, Luis, joined in for a few shots, bringing even more warmth and love into the images.

Vanessa chose three stunning outfits for the session, each one highlighting a different part of her journey to motherhood. She began in a sentimental white dress she had worn at her gender reveal—an event I was also lucky enough to attend. It was a full-circle moment seeing her wear it again, this time so close to welcoming her little one.

Next, she changed into a gorgeous mauve dress from my client closet. This soft, elegant look added a dreamy feel to the session, perfectly complementing the backyard setting and highlighting her glowing beauty. Finally, we ended with a more casual and confident look: jeans paired with a bralette and an open white button-up. This outfit brought a relaxed and personal touch, showcasing Vanessa’s natural glow and effortless style.

This maternity session wasn’t just about taking photos; it was about celebrating Vanessa and Luis as they prepare for the next chapter in their lives. Having known Vanessa for so long, it’s incredible to see her about to step into this new role as a mother. There’s no doubt in my mind that she’s going to be amazing. The love and joy radiating from her during the shoot were undeniable.

I’m beyond grateful to have captured this special moment for them, and I can’t wait to meet their little girl soon. Moments like these remind me why I love what I do—preserving memories, telling stories, and celebrating life’s most beautiful moments.
